Throwing in a bit of Hindi

The obsession with all things Indian grows and its a trend fast catching on with designers. After Sir Alistair Rai, I spot the latest collection from Ports 1961 where the garment names have Hindi thrown in just for the heck of it. Don't believe me, check out the ensembles below and try making a connection! The only one that has a mild dose of logic is the one shouldered sheath with the resemblance being to the draping of the sari. The designer also looked to be in a bit of a hurry as forgot spell check and spelt "Angarakha" as "Angarkha".

A bit of India

You may already be familiar with the brand Sir Alistair Rai known for their India inspired tees and scarves. What I don't get is when Indian words are thrown into product names just for the heck of it! Here's the latest tie-dye range of harem pants from the designer called 'Aaloo Chaat' - go figure why they are being named so? If you like them you can snag them at chickdowntown. Sir Alistair Rai Fall 08

For those who don't know Sir Alistair Rai is the brainchild of designer Kiran Rai who's Indian heritage, love for rock-n-roll and fashion have merged to create this brand that is a favourite with Hollywood celebrities. Here's a look at some of the tees from the Fall 08 collection. The whole collection is produced in India and apparently the designer visits each of the production sites to ensure workers are treated and paid fairly.
